Cardi B spoke out after receiving negative reviews for a comment she made at the Met Gala on Monday, May 6. The 31-year-old rapper «WAP» released a video in response to criticism for saying that her dress was «Asian» and not naming the designer on Instagram. The video of Cardi defending herself was shared on X (formerly Twitter).
At the fashionable event, Cardi wore a stunning long black dress created by Chinese designer Sen Sen Li. When Vogue asked her who her designer was, Cardi did not name the designer. «I feel amazing», - she said. «It's an amazing designer. They’re Asian and all that». Cardi tagged the brand Sensen Windowsen in her Instagram post.
Responding to the criticism, Cardi accused her critics of exaggerating before explaining why she forgot her designer’s name. «I see a lot of you fake rushing to Twitter», - she wrote, as reported by Entertainment Tonight. «I want to make this very clear».
The rapper «I Like It» explained that one of the reasons she couldn’t remember her designer’s name was nerves and that her initial plan for the red carpet didn’t go as smoothly as she thought. «When I was on the red carpet, I was very scared because the dress was supposed to be on a small podium, and I was practicing how to pose on the podium, but on the carpet, I wasn’t allowed to use the podium. So I had a lot of thoughts, and I was rushed ahead of the line», - she said.
Cardi continued and said she simply said «Asian» because she wasn’t sure of their nationality. «I feel like it’s offensive if I said, 'Some Chinese designer' or 'Korean designer' or 'Vietnamese designer'», - she said. «I don’t want to mix up someone’s nationality».
Ultimately, however, Cardi didn’t seem too concerned about the criticism or whether she would be invited back. «Baby, I’m Cardi B», - she said
