Celine Dion teared up as she delivered a preliminary speech to introduce her new documentary film «I: Celine Dion» at the premiere in New York on Monday, June 17. The 56-year-old singer seemed overwhelmed with emotions as she addressed the crowd before the film screening. She gave a tearful speech, thanking everyone who helped her in her battle with stiff person syndrome (SPS).
Celine appeared on the red carpet in a light white button-up shirt and a matching skirt. Before the documentary film screening, Celine took the stage to address the crowd and thank everyone for their support during her return to performing. Prior to the premiere, she thanked her doctor, Dr. Amanda Pike, documentarian Irene Taylor Brodsky, and her three sons: René-Charles, 23, and twins Nelson and Eddy, both 13. She gave birth to the three children with her late husband René Angélil.
After addressing her loved ones, Celine expressed special gratitude to her fans for always being there. She recalled a scene from the documentary film where she compared herself to an apple. «Thanks to you, my fans, your presence in my journey has been an incredible gift. Your endless love and support through all the challenges have brought me to this moment», - she said. «When I told myself that I was comparing myself to an apple on a tree, [I said], 'I don’t want you [fans] to wait in line anymore if I don’t have shiny apples for you'».
The «My Heart Will Go On» singer also shared a sweet message from a fan and thanked them for their support, starting to cry. «A few days ago, I saw a message from a fan that said, 'We're not here for the apple. We’re here for the truth'», - she said. «Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for being part of my journey. This film is my love letter to each of you».
Due to the SPS diagnosis, Celine had to cancel several concerts while she recovers. At the end of her speech, she noted that she hopes to return to the stage soon
