Chuck Todd, known as the chief political analyst for NBC News and former host of Meet the Press, is leaving NBCUniversal after nearly 20 years with the media giant. The 52-year-old journalist joins a number of TV hosts leaving major news networks, including Nora O’Donnell, Jim Acosta, Hoda Kotb, and Neil Cavuto. So why is Todd leaving NBC?
Below is a breakdown of everything Todd told NBC employees and what he plans to do after leaving.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Todd’s current net worth is $ 12 million, and his salary is $ 4 million.
In a memo to employees obtained by USA Today, Todd cited «new projects» as the reason for his departure.
«There is never a perfect time to leave a place that has been a professional home for so long, but I am quite excited about a few new projects that are on the verge of transitioning from 'dream' to 'near reality'», - wrote the Miami-born journalist, adding: «So I am grateful for the opportunity to start the next chapter at this important moment».
Todd also thanked NBC for allowing him to take «ChuckToddcast» with him after his departure. «Stay tuned for an announcement about its new home in the near future», - he added.
«Of course, I plan to continue sharing my reporting and unique perspective on political coverage using data and history as important foundations in understanding where we have been, where we are now, and where we are going», - continued the political analyst, pointing out that the media industry «has a lot of work to do to regain the trust of viewers/listeners/readers, and I am convinced that the best place to start is from the bottom up».
«At my core, I am an entrepreneur — I spent my first 15 years in a company that started the trend of political information bulletins that dominate today. And this is a favorable moment», - explained Todd. «National media cannot regain trust without a strong partner at the local level, and attempts to play with algorithms are not a way to inform and report. People crave community, and this is what national media or large social media companies cannot do as well as local media».
While acknowledging that he is leaving «feeling anxious about this moment in history», - Todd noted that he is «comforted by the standards that [he] and others at NBC have worked so hard to establish».
«We cannot tolerate propagandists», - concluded Todd. «But that does not mean burying your head in the sand; if you ignore reality, you will miss the most important story».
Apparently, Todd’s last day at NBC was January 31, 2025. NBCUniversal did not provide a public comment at the time of publication
