Charlie Puth posted on Instagram on Tuesday, May 21st, to thank Taylor Swift for inspiring him to release his new song «HERO». «My new song HERO is about when you see someone you love causing themselves pain, destroying good things in their life, but you just can’t save them», - the 32-year-old performer of «We Don’t Talk Anymore» captioned the post, accompanied by an image of him relaxing on the street surrounded by flowers.
As his first single of 2024, «This is one of the most difficult songs I’ve had to write, but I wrote it hoping that you have also gone through something similar in your life, and that it can fill the void for you, as it did for me», - Charlie continued. «I am very excited to share my next album with you, especially this song, because it perfectly represents what awaits us».
«I have never released a song like this before — it’s very unusual for me, but I want to thank @taylorswift for musically making me realize that I just couldn’t keep it on my hard drive any longer», - Charlie wrote.
Originally from New Jersey, Charlie was motivated to release «HERO» after hearing Taylor mention him in her track «The Tortured Poets Department» from her recently released album «The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology». In the song, she sings: «You smoked, then ate seven chocolate bars / We declared that Charlie Puth should become a bigger artist».
Since the album «The Tortured Poets Department» was released in April, Charlie has been hinting that new music is on the way. «The past couple of weeks have been really crazy for obvious reasons, but I wanted to share something with you», - he shared in a TikTok video on May 3rd. «Sometimes I get a little nervous about being too honest in my music, so this song has been sitting on my hard drive for a while, but I think someone [Taylor] gave me a sign that I need to release it».
