Chester Green accused of murdering mother with a weapon

A New York resident, Chester Green, has been charged with the murder of his 71-year-old mother, whom prosecutors say he killed with a machete, an axe, and a kitchen knife in their home. The prosecution has also filed three counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the death of his mother, Marian Green, which occurred on July 5.
Chester, 27, pleaded not guilty during a hearing on October 14, according to the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. District Attorney Susan C. Kase described Marian’s death as «a horrific and senseless act of violence that has deeply shaken our community».
According to authorities, Chester attacked Marian in their home in Scarsdale between July 5 and July 7. Police discovered Marian’s body on the morning of July 7 when they responded to a report of a disturbance. Chester was arrested at the crime scene after his mother’s body was found.
Marian was a well-known advocate for the rights of people with disabilities and chair of the Scarsdale Advisory Council on Disability. Scarsdale Mayor Justin Arest noted that she was an active member of the community and dedicated much of her time to various charitable causes.
According to court documents, the police officers who arrived at the scene encountered Chester outside the house, and he told them that he had attempted to take his own life but did not mention his mother. He spent several days under police supervision in a hospital, where he discussed his struggles with depression and psychosis. Chester’s next court appearance is scheduled for December 2.
