Chet Hanks admitted that he once lost nearly 30 pounds in weight in three days after delving into a drug binge, which ultimately led him to return to a rehabilitation center.
On Tuesday, August 13, in an episode of The Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets, the son of Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks opened up to actor Tyler Posey and other housemates about his past drug addiction, sharing horrifying details of his struggle. «Two years ago, I came out of a three-day cocaine binge where I didn’t eat, didn’t sleep, and hardly drank water for three days straight», - said 34-year-old Chet.
«When I came to Vegas, I weighed 190 pounds. Eventually, I weighed 163», - he continued. «I lost 27 pounds in three days, so my illness is horrible. It’s not pretty».
The Atlanta actor added, «Right after Vegas, I went back to the rehab center. Here I am, 31 years old, broke, a drug addict, sucked dry, just skinny — just at the bottom. And I just knew that, dude, if I don’t change my life radically, either I won’t be here at all, or something so bad could happen that my life could already be over».
During the conversation with his housemates, Chet also mentioned that he was celebrating two years of sobriety — a milestone that Posey, also completely clean after years of struggling with sobriety, praised him for.
This revelation came after Hanks admitted in June on fitness blogger Bradley Martyn’s podcast «Raw Talk» that he once snorted so much cocaine that even «junkies» advised him to «calm down».
«I was doing coke with junkies, and they were telling me, 'Hey, calm down, bro… Wait 15 minutes,'» he recalled.
Although Chet admitted that at the time he «couldn't get enough» of the drug, he realized that it was «so bad» not only for his heart but also for his «soul».
«It's awful. It eats you up. You just, like, disappear because you can’t eat, you can’t sleep», - he said.
The actor from the series «Your Honor» has been struggling with addiction since he was 16, prompting his parents to send him to a wilderness program in Utah. «I was there longer than anyone else I saw come or go from the whole program, except for one guy who was there for six months», - he recalled in a 2022 interview.
