Four of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s six children have taken steps to remove the surname «Pitt» from their names. After Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in September 2016, Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, and Vivienne publicly or legally distanced themselves from their famous father by changing their last names. The couple also has sons Pax and Knox, who have not announced any such changes.
According to a source close to the situation, Pitt is deeply upset that his children do not want to be associated with his surname. «It has been very difficult», - the source noted in an interview with Us Weekly in May 2026. Shiloh filed a petition to change her last name on her 18th birthday in May 2024, requesting to drop «Pitt» and keep only «Shiloh Jolie». Her request was granted three months later without a hearing. A source reported that Shiloh hired her own attorney and paid for the services herself. A second insider added that Pitt was «devastated» by this choice, believing it symbolizes a deeper estrangement that has built up over the years.
Zahara filed her own petition in California court to legally become Zahara Jolie in April 2026, which was processed in June. A few weeks prior, she introduced herself as «Zahara Marley Jolie» at her graduation from Spelman College. Judge Virginia Key officially approved Zahara’s name change in September 2026.
Maddox also filed documents in May 2026 to become Maddox Chivan Jolie, using his middle name instead of «Pitt». Vivienne was listed as an assistant producer on the Broadway show «Outcasts», - where her name appeared as Vivienne Jolie. In July 2026, Us confirmed that Vivienne also filed a petition to remove «Pitt» from her surname.
