«Companion: a new horror film from Warner Bros. about love and technology»
29 january 2025 в 21:37
The company Companion, according to its studio producer Warner Bros, represents a «new kind of love story». It also promises 97 minutes of pure, scientifically fantastic, horribly comedic fun. «The horror genre is in such a good state for any type of storytelling right now, and I think we are in such a tense place in the world right now that horror seems like a real catharsis», - said star Sophie Thatcher (Heretic, Yellow Jackets) about the film in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on January 28.

Companion is a story about the dangers of artificial intelligence, which begins in an isolated cabin in the woods and escalates into bloody horror when it becomes clear that one of the weekend guests is actually a robot companion. «I would like to think that one of the messages of this film is that technology is neither fundamentally good nor fundamentally bad, it all depends on how we, as humans, decide to use it», - said co-star Thatcher Jack Quaid to The Hollywood Reporter. «And nine times out of ten we make a mistake and make the wrong decision».
Sophie added that the film «approaches this very almost the other way around, because the robot turns out to be the most human part of the film, and it has the most empathy. So it’s the other way around, but I think it shows the power that technology has, it is neither good nor bad; it just depends on what we do with it».
Jack, whose father Dennis Quaid recently starred in the horror film The Substance, and Sophie, who recently starred in the Mormon thriller Heretic alongside Hugh Grant, play the roles of Josh and Iris, a couple in twisted relationships. Also in the ensemble cast are Lucas Gage, Harvey Guillen, Megan Suri, and Rupert Friend.
You can see Companion in theaters nationwide starting Friday, January 31, 2025. Check your local showtimes. Participating theaters will also show the film in IMAX theaters.
According to ScreenRant, Companion will likely be available for digital purchase or rental at the end of February 2025. This is a Warner Bros film, so it will eventually be broadcast on Max — likely in April
