Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett discussed their new film «Verity», - which is an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s book. In this psychological thriller, Jeremy Crawford (played by Hartnett) hires writer Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson) to complete a series of books by his wife, Verity Crawford (Hathaway), who is unable to walk or speak due to illness.
Anne described the plot, noting that it represents a «strategy of mirrors», - where one reflects the other, making it difficult for viewers to discern what is true. She added that the experience of watching «Verity» involves not only questioning what they see but also pondering why they tend to believe some people more than others. Josh expressed hope that audiences would leave theaters discussing their perspectives on the events in the film.
Dakota pointed out that the film has many intriguing moments, and viewers will constantly be wondering who the villain is. She also emphasized that it will be enjoyable for audiences to decide for themselves which story they want to see. The trio shared that they had kissing scenes during filming, but they were just having fun on set. Anne said, «We all kissed!» Dakota added, «I would kiss Annie every day for the rest of my life!»
Hartnett described the atmosphere on set, noting that despite the film’s intensity and dark moments, they laughed a lot and had a great time. Anne agreed, emphasizing that although the film is a sexual thriller, they are just friends between takes.
Additionally, Hathaway spoke about her work on the adaptation of the book «Yesterday» by Kero Clare Burke, which tells the story of a «traditional wife"—a social media influencer waking up in the 1800s. She noted that the script is in great shape and she looks forward to finding a director to bring it to life.
The film «Verity» will be released in theaters on October 2.
