Oregon University quarterback Dante Moore announced his intention to return to the field after suffering a concussion from a hard hit during the game against USC on September 26. In his Instagram post, he thanked the team and community for their support, noting that the past two days have been difficult, but he is making progress.
The Oregon team won the game with a score of 41−27, but the players' thoughts were focused on Moore, who was taken to the hospital by ambulance after USC linebacker Desman Stephens II delivered the hit that caused the concussion. Stephens was ejected from the game for targeting and was later suspended for the next game due to the severity of the incident and his subsequent reaction.
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning reported that Moore’s MRI and CT scan results were clean, and he did not sustain any additional injuries. Lanning emphasized the importance of a cautious approach to the player’s recovery. He also described the hit as «disgusting» and noted that the emotional atmosphere on the sidelines changed after the incident.
USC head coach Lincoln Riley expressed his well wishes to Moore, stating that such situations are unacceptable regardless of the competitive atmosphere of the game. Stephens, in his statement, apologized for his actions, acknowledging that his reaction was inappropriate and unacceptable. He took full responsibility and expressed hope for Moore’s speedy recovery.
