Darrell Long found guilty of attempted murder of ex-wife

A Pennsylvania resident, Darrell Long, was found guilty of attempted murder of his ex-wife more than a year after he allegedly broke into her home while she was sleeping and shot her multiple times, according to prosecutors.
During the trial, which concluded on September 22, Long was also found guilty of aggravated assault, burglary, and harassment. Lebanon County prosecutors reported that after the attack in March 2025, Long referred to himself as a «hero», - even though his ex-wife, Dorothy Long, managed to survive despite her injuries.
According to the prosecution, Darrell surrendered to police a few hours after the attack, confessing to the crime. He approached Dorothy while she was sleeping on the couch with a .22 caliber firearm. During the attack, he struck her in the head with the gun, after which a struggle ensued, resulting in him shooting her five times.
In court, Dorothy testified that her ex-husband sent messages to their shared child, including after the shooting, expressing his feelings about their breakup. Long’s defense acknowledged that his client did indeed shoot his ex-wife but argued that he did not intend to kill her.
A sentencing hearing for Darrell Long is scheduled for December 9.
