Dave Portnoy and Josh Richards are supporting their best friend Brianna «Chickenfry» LaPalla.
After country music star Zac Brown suddenly broke up with LaPalla — one of the hosts of the BFFs podcast — in October, the two other hosts created a fiery diss track called «The Smallest Man», calling out the musician for allegations of emotional abuse. But the song, which received significant attention and praise, was quickly taken down from publication — twice.
Keep reading to find out why and what Barstool’s founder plans to do.
On Wednesday, November 6, Portnoy said the song was removed from YouTube due to a copyright claim, specifically pointing to the outro.
When the song was re-released, it was taken down again because Richards is signed to the same label as Brown — Warner Records. Later, Portnoy learned that Warner Music Group owns the rights to Richards' music, as the 22-year-old TikToker signed a contract with them in 2020, giving the company the right to take down the track.
The song’s lyrics mention several aspects of LaPalla and Brown’s relationship, including how they met on the exclusive dating app Raya — where, according to reports, Brown returned immediately after surprising LaPalla with a breakup on and off social media.
The song starts with the line: «I said, trust me, your pants are on fire / Tinder, Bumble, Raya, I knew you were a liar», and continues: «You fool, you just created a new rival / Soon you’ll need a revival».
In the video, Portnoy and Richards, dressed as police officers, stop a pickup truck driver resembling Brown — a clear reference to Brown’s arrest in 2023 for alleged interference with transportation. The duo solidifies this with the verse: «Looking for pink skies, but now you see stars / There’s something orange, and it’s you behind those bars, bitch». Portnoy and Richards not only mock the singer for the incident, but also include humiliating audio recordings from Brown’s arrest, intensifying the satire.
They cast a shadow on Brown’s relationship history, with Richards adding: «You say you remember everything, but apparently forgot about your wedding ring», a jab at the Grammy winner for his short-lived marriage to Rose Madden in 2021, which was rumored to involve infidelity.
Despite being taken down, Portnoy does not back down. «I'll write 10,000 diss tracks. I’ll put on headphones. I’ll be back, spitting bars twice as hot», he promised.
Portnoy continued: «We'll deal with this shit. It might take 24 hours», calling Warner Music Group and Brown «cowards», before hinting: «Wait until you hear the podcast tomorrow».
He added: «Maybe we’ll do a 'Dave Version' - I heard Bri might come into the studio and record her version»
