After the Harris-Trump presidential debate on Tuesday, Republican Senator J.D. Vance from Ohio and Democratic Governor Tim Walz from Minnesota will face off in the vice-presidential debates organized by CBS News.
The event will take place just five weeks before voters head to the polls, as the General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 5.
Here’s when the vice-presidential debates will take place and all the details we know so far.
Back in August, CBS News sent invitations to Vance and Walz, offering four potential debate dates: September 17, September 24, October 1, and October 8 — dates they published on X. Both campaigns soon agreed on the date of October 1.
«See you on October 1, J.D»., - Walz wrote on X August 14.
Vance agreed to the date, stating that «the American people deserve as many debates as possible». However, he also challenged Walz to an additional debate on September 18, proposed by CNN. Later, Michael Tyler, the campaign’s public relations director for Kamala Harris, told CBS News that Walz would only agree to participate in the debates on October 1.
«The debate about debates is over. The Donald Trump campaign has accepted our proposal for three debates — two presidential and one vice-presidential debate».
Although it is unclear whether the presidential candidates will face off again, Tyler mentioned that the Trump campaign has agreed to a second presidential debate, although the date or network has not been confirmed yet.
During an interview on FOX News with commentator Sean Hannity after the presidential debate, Donald Trump stated that he «needs to think» about the second debate «because she lost», - but later added, «Maybe if it’s on a fair network».
The debates will be moderated by «CBS Evening News» anchor and managing editor Nora O’Donnell, along with «Face the Nation» moderator and CBS News foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan, as announced by the network last month.
The debates will be conducted by CBS News, more detailed information on the start time and broadcast details will be announced later. This will include various ways for people to watch the event live on different platforms
