The debates in the Texas Senate this year took place on October 15 in Dallas, with Republican Ted Cruz and Democrat Colin Allred facing off on a number of key issues. As the 2024 presidential elections approached, Texas voters watched as Cruz and Allred clashed on issues concerning Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Cruz accused Allred of imitating Harris' policies, saying at one point: «Congressman Allred and Kamala Harris are on the same radical platform», - according to the Associated Press. For his part, Allred insisted that he leans towards the moderate side and described Cruz’s behavior as «entertainment anger, where you just leave people angry, record podcasts about it, write a book about it, and make money off of it, but you’re not really there when people need you».

Allred went on the offensive, recalling Cruz’s vacation in Mexico during the winter storm in Texas. «When the lights went out in the energy capital of the world, he went to Cancun», - Allred said, adding: «On January 6, when the mob stormed the Capitol, he was hiding in a closet. And when the toughest border security bill in a generation came to the U.S. Senate, he took it down. … We don’t need a senator like that».

When discussing their positions on transgender rights and issues such as sports, Cruz pointed to Allred’s past football career, saying: «Congressman Allred was an NFL player. It’s unfair for a man to compete against women».

«I don’t support boys playing in girls' sports», - Allred explained.

At one point, Allred said it was «funny» to even consider Cruz as a «defender of women and girls» when he «thinks it’s perfectly reasonable that if a girl is raped by a family member, a victim of incest, she should be forced to carry that child and give birth to it».

Cruz responded, noting that the abortion law in Texas should be «a decision that will be made by state legislation». He also pointed out: «In Texas, we strongly support that parents should be notified and give consent before their child has an abortion». Additionally, Cruz noted that in the state they «strongly agree that late-term abortions in the eighth and ninth months are too extreme». Later, he added that the majority of Texans «strongly agree that taxpayers should not pay for abortions»
