Demi Lovato has officially released her documentary film «Childhood Star», in which many of her industry colleagues participated, sharing their experiences of growing up under the spotlight. From Drew Barrymore to Kenan Thompson, several actors opened up about their journey to fame. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 32-year-old Disney alumna expressed hope that viewers «will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and pressures young people face in the industry, so that we can achieve our goal of creating a safe and supportive environment for future generations of young talent in the entertainment industry, social media, and beyond».

Each actor shared personal revelations, recalling their childhood and the difficulties of growing up under the spotlight. HollywoodLife gathered stories from some of the participating celebrities.

Demi became famous at a young age, starting her career on the show Barney & Friends alongside her Disney colleague Selena Gomez. After her role as Angela in the children’s show, she moved to Disney, starring in Camp Rock with the Jonas Brothers and in the TV series Sonny With a Chance.

In the documentary film, Demi opened up about the humiliations she endured before achieving fame. She shared that popular girls wrote vulgar messages about her on bathroom walls and even circulated a «suicide petition» at school. Reflecting on her early experiences, Demi shared, «I didn’t realize that [fame] would have such a negative impact on my mental health».

The strain on her mental health affected her behavior on set, as her Camp Rock co-star Alyson Stoner shared in the documentary film: «The last few years of working together were really tough. The environment really felt different. I remember feeling like I was walking on eggshells, and there was a certain fear of explosion».

The 49-year-old actress became famous for her role in the classic film E.T. In the documentary film, Drew recalled her tumultuous family life, sharing that her father was «on a lot of drugs», - leaving her mother, Jaid Barrymore, to raise her as a single mother. Drew wondered, «Why did my mom think it was a good idea for me to go into this. Was it because she wanted to be an actress herself? Was it because my father and his family were actors?»

Kenan Thompson, known for his iconic role in Kenan & Kel on Nickelodeon, shared in the documentary film that the man his mother met stole his earnings from the show. The 46-year-old actor remembered, «He was essentially a con artist and ran off with my biggest earnings at the time. When that was discovered, it was towards the end of that period on Nickelodeon. And it was devastating because I found out before others».

Raven-Symoné began her career at a very young age, becoming known for her roles in That’s So Raven and The Cheetah Girls. In the documentary film, the 38-year-old actress recalled how her family always instilled a strong work ethic in her from the beginning. «I immediately understood that this was work», - she said. «My parents made sure I understood that this was work. I get paid for it, and you approach it professionally».

She continued, «[You know what money is], when you’re told how much you earn for the work you do. So I knew at 3 years old how much I was earning, and understood that this was work. If you mess up, you won’t earn that money».

Christina Ricci, known for her roles in The Addams Family and Casper, shared that her childhood was difficult due to the dynamics in her family. She recalled getting into «crazy trouble» at just seven years old. Ricci also shared that her father was an «unsuccessful cult leader», - and although her relationship with her mother improved when they started going to auditions together, her early years
