Dan Levy criticized Shane Gillis following his controversial monologue on Saturday Night Live, in which the comedian joked about women wearing «short shorts» at the gym. In an Instagram video on October 11, Levy stated that «women wearing short shorts at the gym are not becoming 'prostitutes,' and men who call them that are misogynists».
The actor added that he has seen more male nipples than female bodies at the gym. He expressed confusion over how such statements can be aired on national television and emphasized that more men should speak out against such remarks, as inaction creates an environment where women are subjected to sexual violence. Levy urged men to «protect women more», - noting that this is not just a women’s issue, but a societal issue.
Gillis, who hosted the show that night, made his controversial comments on October 10, saying, «I haven’t been to the gym in so long that I didn’t know women now dress like prostitutes». He also accidentally uttered a profanity on air and later apologized for it. As of now, Gillis has not commented on the criticism directed at him.
Levy received support from other celebrities, including actress Sophia Bush and actor Barrett Wilbert Weed, who expressed gratitude for his words.
