The boy who survived is now the man who won a Tony! Daniel Radcliffe delivered a beautiful acceptance speech after winning his first Tony Award during the ceremony on Sunday, June 16. The 34-year-old star of «The Music Man» received the award for Best Actor in a Musical for his role in the revival of Stephen Sondheim’s musical «Merrily We Roll Along» alongside Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez. «I will try to speak quickly and not cry», - he said, starting his speech.
Throughout his speech, Daniel listed many people working on the show, talking about how wonderful it was to be a part of it. «It was one of the best experiences of my life. Thank you for thinking of me for this», - he said. «Everyone on that stage, it’s an honor to be on stage with you every night. I will miss it so much».
Daniel continued, praising his two main partners in the musical and explaining what an honor it was to work with them. «Speaking of missing you: Jonathan, Lindsay, I will miss you so much. I really don’t need to act in this show. I just need to look at you and feel everything I want to feel. I will never feel this good again», - he said.
At the end of his speech, the «Harry Potter» star addressed his loved ones who were there to support him in his career, including greeting his longtime partner Erin Darke. «My mom and dad are somewhere here. Happy Father’s Day, dad! I love you both so much. Thank you for playing Sondheim in the car and just, you know, loving me», - he said. «My love, Erin, you and our son are the best thing that ever happened to me. I love you both so much. Thank you very much».
For Daniel, this is the first time he has been nominated for a Tony, but he has been appearing on stage for a long time. He made his Broadway debut in 2008 in the play «Equus». In 2011, he starred in the revival of «How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying», - and in 2018, he was in the play «The Lifespan of a Fact»
