Dennis Quaid is no stranger to tension and horror. This 70-year-old actor has appeared in many films of the thriller genre, including «The Entity» with Demi Moore, «Beneath the Darkness» (2011), «The Intruder» (2019), «Jaws 3-D» (1983), and «Pandorum» (2009), among others. In 1978, he starred alongside Gwyneth Paltrow’s mother, Blythe Danner, in a little-known horror and thriller TV movie called «Are You in the House Alone?».

Not to be confused with the 2014 film «The Smile Killer» with David Arquette, «The Smile of Joy» is inspired by the incredible story of Melissa G. Moore, who learned at the age of 15 that her father — serial killer Keith Hunter Jesperson. The eight-episode series investigates the murders and the long-term devastating impact of the crimes on the Jesperson family members and the families of the victims.
According to Rolling Stone, in the 1990s, the father of three killed at least eight women in just five years. He then taunted the investigating police with letters featuring mocking smiling faces. He is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole in an Oregon state prison.
«The Smile of Joy» follows Melissa (Anneli Gashford) and her imprisoned father, known as «The Smile Killer» (Dennis Quaid). After decades without contact, he finds a way to re-enter his daughter’s life. In a race against time, Melissa must determine whether an innocent man will be executed for a crime her father committed. Throughout, she discovers the influence her father had on the families of his victims and must face her own identical judgment".
