Derek Hough shared memories of his wife Hayley Erbert’s health struggles while watching the documentary film about Celine Dion «I'm Celine Dion» on Instagram Reel, published on Thursday, June 27.
«It was very difficult to watch one of Celine’s MS attacks happening in real time. It was so hard to see her suffer. It also reminded me of Hayley’s attack on stage a few months ago. I could barely watch it», - wrote 39-year-old Derek.
Hayley suffered a brain aneurysm in December 2023, after which she underwent an emergency craniectomy. Later, she was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma. During this difficult period, she was advised to refrain from dancing until she could resume in April.
Like 29-year-old Hayley, Celine also cannot perform due to her struggle with stiff person syndrome. This condition has led the 56-year-old singer to experience attacks and a feeling of loss of control over her body.
After an attack in the documentary film, she asked the doctor, «What do I do… If I can’t enjoy what I love, and then I go on stage, and you put a pulse oximeter on me and lay me on my back?»
She confessed, «Performing is not easy, you know? I miss people so much, I miss them. If I can’t run, I’ll walk. If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl. But I won’t stop».
Seeing the difficult journey the «My Heart Will Go On» singer has been through, the judge of «Dancing with the Stars» expressed admiration for the great artist she is: «Last night watched the new documentary film about Celine Dion 'I'm Celine'… We were lucky to meet her a couple of years ago, even sing and dance with her a little… The documentary film was incredibly powerful, showing Celine’s struggle with MS, but also her funny and fun side», - noted Derek.
