Children of Amy Carter: who are they and how do they live now?

Amy Carter has led a private life for decades. Despite being the daughter of the late former president Jimmy Carter, Amy has tried to keep her personal life away from the public eye. After her father’s funeral in January 2025, many of his supporters wanted to know how Amy is doing now and learn more about her family.
Meet Amy’s two children and those she shares them with below.
Hugo — Amy’s son, whom she welcomed with her ex-husband James Wentzel in 1999. Hugo appeared in one season of Claim to Fame, and he opened up about his grandfather Jimmy’s death in an emotional Instagram post in December 2024. He began the caption by stating, «As many of you already know, Jimmy Carter was my grandfather».
«He was an absolutely incredible man, and people remind me almost every day how amazing he was», - Hugo wrote about Jimmy. «He was the 39th President of the United States, and his goal for our country was to unite everyone regardless of race, class, or gender. His extreme care for every person at all times was nothing short of extraordinary, and that is what I strive for every day. He was the most selfless person I have ever met in my life, and I’m not joking when I say possibly one of the most selfless people in history. I am so grateful to be his grandson».
Hugo then recalled the death of his grandmother, Jimmy’s wife, Rosalynn Carter, in 2023.
«My grandmother passed away last year, and it’s wonderful to know that they are now together in peace», - Hugo continued in his caption. «Many already know Jimmy Carter’s greatest achievements (presidential achievements in human rights, energy, the Panama Canal, etc.), which are absolutely amazing. I wanted to highlight him as an incredible grandfather and a man who made time for his family, even while doing all these AMAZING things».
Hugo reminisced about his memories with Jimmy, including fly fishing, hunting, cooking, and even cutting down Christmas trees together. Furthermore, Jimmy even visited Hugo in middle school «with the entire Secret Service» in tow «just to spend time» with his grandson.
«He spent so much time teaching me life lessons (and caring for the family as a whole continuously), even while doing the coolest things in history», - Hugo added about Jimmy. «He always told me to always believe in myself and never stop working, never. He was an incredible governor, president, business owner, and most importantly, a family man».
Hugo concluded his post by promising to uphold Jimmy’s legacy.
Errol — Amy’s daughter, whom she shares with her current husband John Joseph «Jay» Kelly. Little is known about Amy’s younger child, but she attended her grandmother Rosalynn’s funeral service in 2023
