Bella Thomson, known to her online community as Bella Brave, passed away at the age of 10.
«Our brave girl left her legacy here on earth to dance on the streets of gold on July 14, 2024 at 4:19 pm Eastern Time», - wrote her mother, Kayla Thomson, on Instagram on July 15.
«Bella left peacefully in our arms», - she continued. «Please keep her name on your lips, her memories alive, and her bravery in your hearts. Please share with us every detail of how she touched your life or helped you be brave».
«Bella would want you to remember: God is love, be brave, and it’s never too late to bring a soft toy. 🧸 #bellabrave», - the message concluded.
Bella’s death came just days after the 10-year-old was placed in an artificial coma due to complications from a viral infection in her lungs.
In a video posted on social media on July 11, Kayla announced that Bella remained «stable without improvement» while in the SickKids hospital in Toronto.
Over the years, Bella became popular on social media, showcasing her vibrant personality as her parents, Kayla and Lyle, documented her life-threatening health struggles. Bella battled a rare intestinal disorder called Hirschsprung’s disease, severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), and other health issues.
After Kayla shared that Bella was placed in an artificial coma due to «rapid fibrosis-like deterioration» of the child’s lungs, she continued to update fans who closely followed and prayed for her successful recovery.
«She is in a sedated state, intubated in an artificial coma, and I am not losing hope», - she said in a video on July 14, before Bella passed away. «I don’t know how this will end. We still need your prayers and all the love. I will try to update you as much as I can. She is still with us and continues to fight».
Bella, who was also the sister of 5-year-old brother Waylon, spent hundreds of days in the hospital and underwent about 30 surgeries. While her mother shared the child’s story, the duo captured the hearts of over seven million followers on TikTok, and Bella met stars such as Halsey, Ryan Reynolds, Katherine McPhee, and David Foster.
«Bella says, 'Let's do this! Let’s make a video today,'» Kayla told PEOPLE in 2023. «She thinks people love her personality, and she wants them to know her passions and what brings her joy. She just wants to spread joy to other children and everyone else».
«She was fearless», - Kayla added. «No matter what trials she had to face, I never saw fear in her. She taught me courage»
