The Daytona 500 race, often referred to as the «Great American Race», - officially opened the NASCAR season of 2025 at its 67th annual event at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.
As one of the most popular events in the world of motorsports, this year’s race attracted even more attention due to the presence of President Donald Trump. He will be the first sitting president to attend two Daytona 500 races, having participated in the first one in 2020.
Before his arrival at the airport on Sunday, February 16, President Trump released a statement:
«This iconic race showcases the fastest, most fearless drivers in motorsports, representing the nation’s love for traditions, competition, and automotive innovation. On Friday, NASCAR moved the start time of the race from 2:30 PM Eastern Time to 1:30 PM Eastern Time in anticipation of possible adverse weather conditions.
Normally, the Daytona 500 race, where drivers compete for the prestigious Harley J. Earl trophy, lasts between three to four hours. However, factors such as accidents, rain, and track conditions can often lead to delays and extend the duration of the race.
The race is set to cover 500 miles, equivalent to 200 laps around the 2.5-mile tri-oval track of the Daytona International Speedway.
The 2025 Daytona 500 race is being broadcast on the Fox channel.
