Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy stated that Ohio State University football head coach Ryan Day was the reason for his exclusion from the Big Noon Kickoff program on Fox Sports. Portnoy announced this on October 2 via X, noting that he learned about an article set to be published soon, which discusses his «freezing» from the program.
According to Portnoy, Ohio State University and Day «complained» to Big Ten and threatened Fox, which forced the network to drop him from participation. He added that «money is on the line» and expressed confusion over Day’s reaction. Portnoy also reminded that last week the program took place in Ohio, where it was decided to limit access for Fox staff if he appeared on air.
Fox Sports and Barstool had an agreement that Portnoy and other Barstool personalities were to regularly appear on Big Noon Kickoff until 2025. Sources from The Athletic reported that the decision to exclude Portnoy was not due to a single reason but resulted from difficulties in merging Fox Sports' traditional format with Barstool’s image.
Previously, Portnoy claimed that he was banned from the Ohio State University stadium; however, the university’s athletic director, Gene Smith, denied this information. Portnoy also noted that the Barstool College Football team will continue its work, adding that they might still visit Columbus, where, according to him, most fans appreciate the rivalry.
