Many know Diane Keaton as an iconic actress who conquered Hollywood with films like «Annie Hall», - «Something's Gotta Give», - and «The Godfather» franchise, but some fans are surprised to learn that she never married and became a mother at the age of 50, adopting a daughter and a son. «Motherhood completely changed me», - she once told Film Monthly. «It's one of the most humbling experiences I’ve ever had».
Even after winning an Oscar, two Golden Globes, and the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award, the star of «First Wives Club» always knew that there was something greater in life than acting, and so she wanted to try her hand at parenting. «It was more of a thought that I pondered for a long time», - she said to Access Online in 2008. «And I decided to go for it».
Unfortunately, Diane passed away on October 11, 2025, at the age of 79.
Read on to learn all about her two amazing children, Dexter and Duke.
In 1996, Diane adopted Dexter, who was born a year earlier. The young beauty did not follow in her mother’s footsteps in Hollywood, although she accompanied Diane on many red carpets. A graduate of the University of Arizona, she certainly admires her incredible mother, as she shared a photo of the pair on Mother’s Day in 2014 with the caption: «I am so grateful to be adopted by such a strong, beautiful, and talented woman. I cannot thank you enough for all you have done for me. I love you!»
Dexter also couldn’t wait to share the exciting news of her engagement via Instagram in November 2020. With a photo of her then-boyfriend Jordan White proposing on one knee, Dexter wrote: «It started with hail this morning and ended with a diamond! I can’t believe I’m engaged! I love you, Jordan!»
The couple got married in June 2021, and photos of the beautiful wedding were posted on all of Dexter’s social media. In one charming photo, the bride and groom pose with Diane and Duke, as Dexter captioned it, «Family». A source told Closer Weekly that the wedding was «perfect». «It was Dex’s day, and she was a beautiful bride», - the source added. «Diane cried, of course… she just can’t believe how time flies».
Dexter’s younger brother, Duke, was welcomed into the family in 2001. Like his sister, Duke prefers to stay out of the spotlight and is quite a private person. Although he has not yet taken an interest in his mother’s acting career, he has interacted with celebrities, posting a very cute photo with Rita Ora and Cara Delevingne on his Instagram. He also loves cooking, as he shares numerous chef recipes on social media, including one where he and a friend cook steak and eggs for breakfast.
Another one of his hobbies seems to be photography, as he runs a separate Instagram account where he posts his stunning photos. The collection includes tropical landscapes, cityscapes, and snapshots of his international travels. Diane must be proud, as she herself is a talented photographer, having released several books of her work. In a 2008 interview with Vanity Fair, Diane said that her mother inspired her to pick up a camera. «She encouraged me to capture photos. 'Don't forget,' she would say. Photos have such an impact — more than words. They are so visual and intense»
