Janet Jackson clearly makes it known that she does not enjoy doing interviews. The 58-year-old musician appeared on the podcast «Heart Evenings with Dev Griffin» on Wednesday, July 17, and did not hesitate to tell the podcast host that she did not want to answer questions.
«I don’t want to be rude, but I need to be honest with you. Please stop asking me questions», - said the performer of «All for You». «I never thought I gave good interviews. I really don’t like talking, so I prefer to be silent and listen to other people speak, and I have always been like that».
Janet then reinforced her words, telling Dev Griffin, «Don't ask me questions», - and then jokingly concluded, «Are we done?»
The sister of the late Michael Jackson began her career in the entertainment industry in the early 1970s, appearing on television in shows like «Good Times» and «Fame». Eventually, Janet became a well-known musical artist in the mid-1980s with the album Control, which established her as a great vocalist in the genres of pop and R&B. Jackson’s innovative music videos, such as the famous «Rhythm Nation», expanded artistic boundaries while drawing attention to social issues. Over the past few decades, Janet has sold over 100 million records and received several awards.
Currently, Janet is in the middle of the North American leg of her «Together Again» tour. Despite telling Dev that she does not like interviews, she opened up about her passion for music and her inspirations.
«I have to exclude family, because obviously that spoke to me first, seeing my brothers, my sisters, my cousin Stevie [Wonder] - seeing him perform was a huge inspiration», - noted Janet, also mentioning the group Earth, Wind & Fire. «My brothers often took me to concerts with them, and I remember seeing Earth, Wind & Fire as a child — just unforgettable. It blew me away, the musical mastery and creativity. I just loved it».
Janet then mentioned another musical icon: Prince, recalling that she saw him «in my early, early, early 20s».
«He performed some songs I wasn’t familiar with, and didn’t perform songs I was familiar with, and I thought, 'If I ever perform at this level, I don’t want to do that'», - she noted. «I want, at least, to perform songs that people are familiar with, definitely»
