Jack Antonoff commented on how Ed Sheeran handled the situation regarding the removal of Macklemore from his Loop Tour. In an interview with The Guardian published on October 25, Antonoff stated that Sheeran missed the opportunity to cancel the entire tour and hold free concerts on the street to raise money, instead of succumbing to pressure from a billionaire.
In September, Macklemore was removed from his role as a supporting artist on Sheeran’s tours after he expressed support for Palestine during two performances at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Sheeran claims that the decision to remove him was made by his tour partners under pressure from Gillette Stadium owner Robert Kraft and others. Later, two of Sheeran’s concerts at Gillette Stadium were canceled due to weather conditions.
Following the incident, other supporting artists, such as Finneas O’Connell and the band Beoga, also withdrew from the shows. Sheeran resumed his tour on September 19 in Philadelphia, where he publicly commented on the situation for the first time. He noted that he continues the tour to avoid disappointing his fans and acknowledged that he had to make difficult decisions.
Macklemore, for his part, launched his own tour «Free Palestine», - emphasizing the importance of supporting Palestinian liberation and the need to advocate for freedom of speech. Antonoff, like Sheeran, is a friend and collaborator of Taylor Swift and actively supports the Palestinian cause in his performances.
