Jack Hughes helped the U.S. national team win a gold medal in the final match against Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics. The NHL star scored the decisive goal despite having his front teeth knocked out. With blood still visible on his gums, Jack demonstrated to the world what dedication means to him. But how exactly did he lose his tooth—or even several—in the final game?

Here’s how it all happened to Jack during the Olympic final hockey match.

By the end of the game between the U.S. and Canada, it seemed that Jack had lost two front teeth. Earlier in the match, the New Jersey Devils player found himself in the penalty box before scoring his epic winning goal.

«I pictured myself on Barstool as that guy that America hates because Canada scores on the power play», - Jack recalled of the moment, according to Yahoo! Sports. «I thought, 'Oh man, here it comes.'»

Canadian forward Sam Bennett accidentally hit Jack in the face with his stick in the third period, which ultimately led to the loss of his front teeth.

However, this bloody incident did not stop Jack. The American hockey player continued to play and was able to score the winning goal in overtime. It was an emotional moment for both teams: the U.S. celebrated in a circle around the net, while the Canadians left the ice feeling defeated.

«It's all about our country right now», - Jack said, with blood on his lips, after the game, according to the Daily Mail. «I'm so proud to be an American. I love my country, I love my teammates… This is American hockey. It’s a great Canadian team, but this means so much. We are such a team. The brotherhood of the U.S. in this team is so strong. I can’t believe it. It could have gone either way tonight»
