New York Giants quarterback Jackson Dart suffered a knee injury during the game against the Los Angeles Rams on September 21, and according to NFL Network, his condition turned out to be more serious than expected. There is a possibility that he will miss the remainder of the season.
Dart was injured during his team’s first drive when he was hit by Rams linebacker Byron Young. The hit caused Dart to awkwardly collide with another Rams linebacker, Josiah Stewart, after which he fell to the ground. The player grabbed his right knee and was evaluated in the medical tent before heading to the locker room. He later returned to the field in civilian clothes to watch the remainder of the game.
According to ESPN, Dart attempted to return to the game in the first half, but the Giants did not allow him to do so. He was replaced by backup quarterback Jameis Winston, who finished the game with 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards and one interception. Ultimately, the Giants lost to the Rams 28−6, which dropped their record to 1−1 at the start of the season.
After the game, Giants head coach John Harbaugh stated that he was optimistic about Dart’s condition and did not consider the injury to be season-ending. He noted that the MRI results would help clarify the situation. The team’s general manager, Joe Schoen, also expressed hope that Dart would be okay. Team player Cam Scattibo added that if Dart is able to play, it would be the right decision, but if he needs to rest, it is better to give him time to recover.
