Participant of the show «Dancing with the Stars» Jackson Olson apologized to competitor Guillermo Rodriguez after his comment sparked controversy on social media. In his Instagram, Olson wrote: «From the bottom of my heart, I apologize for my comment that caused so much negativity. I love this guy ❤️, let’s focus on what this show is about — the dancing».
Olson posted a video using audio from the song «Nobody's Perfect» by Hannah Montana, in which he and Rodriguez, wearing sunglasses, dance together, ignoring the discussion.
Before the performances on the evening dedicated to Mariah Carey, Olson drew attention from social media users with his comment on a post published by Loco Beach Coconuts. In the video, he commented on the choreography performed by Rodriguez and Whitney Carson earlier in the season: «But seriously, how did you manage to do this better than him in 2 hours of rehearsal?» — adding a smiling emoji. Fans quickly speculated that Olson was hinting at Rodriguez, who often finds himself at the bottom of the leaderboard this season.
Both participants will hit the dance floor again on Tuesday for the Mariah Carey-themed evening. Olson will dance the waltz with professional dancer Emma Slater, while Rodriguez and Carson, who is currently pregnant with her third child, will perform the samba. Despite low scores, Rodriguez maintains a positive attitude in the competition. Carson also defended her partner’s hard work in the studio, noting that Rodriguez came to the show without any dance experience, unlike some other contestants.
«This is not a dance competition», - she said on Instagram after the season premiere. «If it really were a dance competition, every participant would come with the same level of dance experience». She added that it is important to vote for favorite contestants, not just for those who show the best dancing.
Although the duo does not have the highest scores this season, they continue to participate in the competition thanks to viewer votes. Carson also noted that the judges are starting to change their opinions about them. «I feel like we are gradually winning them over», - she said in an interview.
