Investigation into human trafficking by Sean «Diddy» Combs is not the first time celebrities have asked him questions. Country musician and rapper Jelly Roll recalled how he refused the opportunity to meet and take a photo with the music producer, and explained the reason for this in a new interview.
Discussing this memory on the podcast «Cancelled with Tana Mongeau» last week — before he won at the CMT Music Awards over the weekend — Jelly Roll, 39, got a chance to talk to Diddy, 54, in October 2023, when they both appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
«This is the first time in my career that I’ve ever been told, 'Do you want to meet so-and-so?' And I said, 'Yes,' and started walking in that direction», - noted the performer of «Son of a Sinner». «And as I was walking down the hallway — this is true — I said, 'No,' and went back to the car. I swear. I don’t know what it is».
Jelly Roll also mentioned that he «jokingly» first mentioned meeting Diddy, admitting that it also made him feel like the opportunity was not in his favor.
«I said, 'Who doesn’t want to meet the guy who killed Tupac Shakur?' And no one found it funny, so I thought, 'Oops, that was a fail, maybe I shouldn’t go do it anyway,'» Jelly Roll added.
By the end of the conversation, the Tennessee native admitted that he felt uncomfortable at that moment for unknown reasons.
«I just thought, 'I don’t know,'» he concluded. «Very rarely does something hit me so hard that I don’t even know if I want this photo».
Jelly Roll’s comments come against the backdrop of Diddy’s ongoing legal situation. Over the past few months, several women have come forward with allegations of sexual harassment against the rapper. Last month, his homes in Los Angeles and Miami were searched by the National Security Service as part of a human trafficking investigation. Diddy’s lawyer criticized the searches as «a rough application of military force, as search warrants were executed at Mr. Combs' homes».
«This unprecedented ambush — combined with an advanced, coordinated media presence — leads to premature condemnation of Mr. Combs and is nothing more than a witch hunt based on baseless allegations made in civil lawsuits», - said lawyer Aaron Dyer. «There have been no findings of criminal or civil liability on these allegations. Mr. Combs is innocent and will continue to fight every day to clear his name».
