Jenny McCarthy shared her experience at the wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in 2006, where, according to her, the actor tried to draw her into his controversial Church of Scientology. She discussed this in an episode of her podcast released on October 15.
McCarthy, who was dating Jim Carrey at the time, claims she attended the couple’s rehearsal dinner and sat «literally across» from the newlyweds. She recalled the moment when a nanny brought Katie their newborn daughter, Suri. «I walked over and asked, 'Can I hold the baby?'» she said. At that moment, she felt all eyes were on her, and she sensed a «Scientology stare».
According to McCarthy, Katie «slowly handed» Suri to her, and at that moment, silence fell over the room. «I just said, 'Hi, baby,'» she added. After she returned the child, conversations in the hall resumed.
Additionally, McCarthy claims that Cruise introduced her to his best man, David Miscavige, the leader of the Church of Scientology. She sarcastically remarked, «Ha-ha, you got picked. Congratulations». She said Miscavige did not appreciate the joke, and Cruise laughed loudly to lighten the mood. McCarthy also noted that, despite Cruise being «a really nice guy», - he comes across as «very programmed».
