Jenny Slatten continues her battle with ALS, condition worsens
Jenny Slatten’s battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) continues, and her condition is worsening. According to her friend Serma Miniklery, in an update on GoFundMe from September 23, Jenny «is getting weaker every day». She is taking two medications—edaravone and riluzole—that are supposed to slow the progression of the disease, but they cause her significant fatigue.

Serma launched a fundraising campaign for Jenny in July to assist with her treatment. Currently, 68-year-old Jenny has seen five neurologists and speech therapists for symptom management. The update also mentions that Jenny will soon begin a course of acupuncture, as there are studies showing positive effects from this procedure on mobility and fatigue levels. However, Jenny is currently speaking very little, as it causes her pain.

Jenny announced her diagnosis in May. Her husband, Sumit Singh, has become her primary caregiver and speaks on her behalf. In August, he noted that Jenny’s symptoms are progressing, and it is becoming increasingly difficult for her to speak. Sumit expressed hope that she would be able to receive better treatment and support in the U.S.

Jenny moved to India with Sumit after their wedding in 2021 and is reluctant to consider returning to the U.S. for treatment, calling India her «home». Sumit, for his part, is facing difficulties obtaining a visa to travel with Jenny.
