Jessica Alba recalls the beginning of her film career. During a new interview with PEOPLE magazine, published on Thursday, June 13, the 43-year-old actress detailed the difficulties she faced when starting out in her acting career. Remembering the financial stress she experienced when she was younger, Jessica noted that it «puts you on the back foot».
«You don’t always take the best roles», - explained the star of the series «Trigger Warning». «You just take roles to survive, which teaches resilience and perseverance, but I wish I had the skills and resourcefulness to write, knowledge of writing, directing, and producing at an earlier stage in my career».
She is currently serving as an executive producer for her new special forces-themed film, which is set to be released on Netflix on Friday, June 21. Jessica recalled how she initially felt grateful for landing a role early in her career, but also felt «desperation» due to financial concerns.
«You're so happy to be there, and it’s like, 'Did the check clear?'» she said. «And there’s desperation, like, 'Please, God, I need this job… If they want to be a performer, then to have the opportunity to be a producer and writer, or director. I think having that leadership role is really important for art and being part of art in a way that they feel they have more autonomy and more dignity».
Now, as a mother to daughters Honor and Haven and son Hayes — whom she shares with her husband Cash Warren, a graduate of «Dark Angel» — Jessica opened up about how she would feel if one of her children pursued a career in show business.
«The thing is, if you tell your child something, they’ll do the opposite, right?» Jessica pointed out. «So I try not to have too strong opinions one way or the other».
Jessica started auditioning when she was 11, landing commercial gigs and roles in various independent films. Eventually, she got her big break in the series created by James Cameron, «Dark Angel». Soon after that, Jessica landed roles in films of various genres and married her husband in 2008
