J. Cole seems to have retracted his diss on Kendrick Lamar just a few days after its release! During his performance at his Dreamville festival in North Carolina, J. Cole admitted that the track «7 Minute Drill» from his album Might Delete Later, which was released suddenly, was not his proudest moment during the performance on Sunday, April 7. He said that he is «proud» of most of the album, but this track was not his shining moment. «It's one part of this shit that makes me feel like, dude, this is the wackest shit I’ve ever done in my life, right?» he said.
The rapper «No Role Modelz», 39, continued and said that when Kendrick, 36, dissed him and Drake in his guest verse on the song «Like That» by Future and Metro Boomin, it ignited a fire in him. He confessed to feeling «conflicted» after hearing the diss. «I know how I feel about my peers, these two damn guys that I’ve been blessed to even stand next to in this game [Drake and Kendrick Lamar], let alone pursue their greatness, right? So I felt irritated because I, dude, know that I really don’t feel anything. But the world wants to see blood!» he said.
J. Cole continued and said that he was just trying to spark friendly competition, but he felt «bad» about how he did it, and it didn’t «sit well with him». He then finished by expressing his love for K. Dot. «How many people think Kendrick Lamar is one of the greatest assholes to ever touch the microphone? Dreamville, you love Kendrick Lamar, right?» he said. «Just like I do».
The beef between Kendrick and J. Cole and Drake began when the Born Sinner rapper mentioned him in a guest verse on Drake’s song «First Person Shooter». Kendrick responded in the song «Like That», stating that he is the best. «I don’t give a damn about the big three», - he rapped. «It's just me».
A few weeks after Kendrick’s reproach, J. Cole responded with the track «7 Minute Drill», in which he delved into various albums in Kendrick’s discography. «He's still performing, but he fell like the Simpsons», - he rapped. «If he hadn’t dissed, we wouldn’t be talking about him»
