Jade Carey was not going to let a mistake affect her performance at the Olympics. After falling during the floor exercise, the 24-year-old athlete made a strong comeback on the vault. Jade scored 14.800 points, helping the US team get closer to the desired result.

The gymnast’s epic vault took place two days after she fell in the qualifying round on July 28 at the Olympics in Paris. Shortly after the mishap, Jade explained that she was struggling with an unknown illness and had lost energy before her performance, according to Olympics.com.

«I just felt bad in the last few days and couldn’t eat anything», - she explained. «Today I had no energy and I didn’t really understand what was going on in my head. So I just wanted people to know about it, so they understand that something is really wrong with me».

It is unclear what caused Jade’s short-term illness. Olympic teammate Aly Raisman spoke on the matter and noted that Jade «should be proud of herself».

«One of the hardest things in sports is that no matter how prepared you are, sometimes in the morning when you wake up for a competition, you can feel bad», - said 30-year-old three-time Olympic champion Aly Raisman. «You can be in a time zone shift, maybe you slept poorly, and random things can happen. It’s just terrible to hear that she was feeling bad. I hope she knows she did an incredible job».

The two-time Olympic champion added: «Gymnastics is already difficult enough when you feel at your peak, in your best shape. So, for her to say that she hadn’t eaten for a few days and was sick, and still be able to perform at such a level, is truly remarkable».

Jade is not the only American athlete who has had to overcome difficulties. Her teammate Simone Biles competed with a calf muscle injury over the weekend. She dominated in every exercise, despite the pain in her leg
