Indie rocker Jake Luppen, frontman of the band Hippo Campus, has informed his fans about the need for brain surgery. In his Instagram post, he revealed that seven years ago, during an examination prompted by migraines, a 9-mm tumor was discovered in the area of the basal ganglia.
According to Luppen, this year, during a routine scan, possible activity of the tumor was detected, leading to an electroencephalogram. He noted that the panic symptoms he experienced turned out to be focal seizures. Doctors at the Mayo Clinic determined that he needs to undergo a craniotomy, as a biopsy would be too risky.
Luppen stated that the surgery, scheduled for November 6, will last about six hours, and he will need to remain awake so that the surgeons can safely access the suspected stage II tumor (slow-growing, low-grade). He added that after the tumor is removed, it will be sent for analysis to determine the further treatment plan.
The musician also mentioned that it may take time before he can perform again, but he plans to play a concert on October 19 at Turf Club to «let loose one last time before he has to rest for a few months».
