In North Carolina, 22-year-old Jaylen Walker was arrested after he allegedly burned his 7-week-old son with hot water and left him with his grandmother with peeling skin. Walker is charged with a felony against a child after, according to court documents, his son suffered second and third-degree burns from hot water on Wednesday, October 21.
According to the indictment, after the incident, Walker called the child’s parents and explained the situation, stating that he had tried to apply Vaseline to the baby’s skin, which continued to peel. He later left the child with the grandmother. The child’s mother, who was at work, learned about the burns from Walker and urged him to call for help. The prosecutor stated that she repeatedly advised him to call 911 and that she was already on her way to him.
At 4:30 PM on Wednesday, the child’s mother called 911, and police and medical services arrived at the scene. The infant was taken to the hospital, where doctors found not only burns but also healing rib fractures. Prosecutors noted that police could not locate Walker for several hours after the incident, and he was arrested at a local grocery store around 1 AM on October 22.
Walker’s attorney claims that he has no criminal history and there is no evidence that he intentionally harmed his son. Walker was denied bail and is scheduled to return to court on November 25. It is currently unclear whether Walker has entered a plea, and the attorney could not be immediately reached for comment. The investigation is ongoing.
