Minnesota resident Jamie Lee Walker was sentenced to 12 years and 6 months in prison for the murder of his mother and burglary at a neighbor’s house. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and burglary in July, after which his case was reviewed by the prosecution.
According to information provided by the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office, the sentence was handed down on October 2. The incident occurred on July 23, 2025, when Jamie went to his mother, 70-year-old Katherine Walker, and, while under the influence of drugs, shot her seven times with a .22 caliber pistol. After that, he broke into a neighbor’s house, where he damaged the bathroom. The neighbor called the police, and Jamie was arrested.
During the investigation, it was revealed that before the crime, Jamie had smoked a THC vape. He told investigators that he did not remember the actions he took due to the strong effects of marijuana. As part of a plea agreement, an additional charge of intentional murder was dropped. Jamie utilized what is known as a «Norgaard plea», - which allows a defendant to plead guilty even if they cannot fully recall the events that occurred.
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison described the crime as horrific for the family and the Windom community, noting that while a mother cannot be brought back, it is important for Jamie to be held accountable for his actions. The case was investigated by the Windom Police Department, the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
