James Earl Jones was one of the most iconic actors in the film industry with nearly 200 acting credits to his name and 70 years of experience. As reported by the New York Post, he was also a prolific actor on Broadway, appearing in 21 shows. It’s no wonder that the late 93-year-old actor had three Tony awards, two Emmy awards, one Grammy award, and an honorary award from the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for lifetime achievement. Despite all the awards, he is probably best known as the voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchise. And although he retired at the end of 2022, his voice will live on thanks to artificial intelligence technology that can recreate his voice again and again, as reported by CNN. Unfortunately, James passed away at the age of 93 on September 9, 2024.

In addition to being one of the most respected artists of all time, James was also the father of his son Flynn Earl Jones, whom he shared with his late wife, actress Cecilia Hart. Flynn is the only child James had in his lifetime, although he was married again before starting a family with Cecilia. Learn about James’s two wives and marriages below.

Julienne Marie, born in Ohio in 1933, according to her IMDb page, is also an actress and a musical enthusiast, like James. She began getting roles on Broadway in the 1950s and was even nominated for a Tony award for Best Actress in a Musical in 1959 for her role in Whoop-Up and was nominated for the same award in 1964 for Foxy, according to Playbill. She also appeared in productions of Do I Hear A Waltz?, Gypsy, and Charlie and Algernon. As for her television roles, she is best known for the series Ryan’s Hope (1978) and Our Private World (1965).

Julienne was married three times in her life. She was married to Gerald Kina from 1955 to 1961, and after James to John Scanlon from 1974 until his death in 2001. Her marriage to James lasted four years from 1968 to 1972.

Cecilia Hart was born in Wyoming in 1948 and pursued her acting ambitions by moving to New York. She eventually found herself on Broadway in the original productions of The Heiress (1976) and Dirty Linen & New-Found-Land (1976), as well as playing Desdemona in Othello in 1982, as listed on her Playbill page. Although she was never nominated for a Tony, she received the Theatre World Award in 1977 and the Drama Desk Award in 1977. She also appeared in several TV shows, such as Law & Order, The Runaways, and MacGyver.

Cecilia and James met on the set of the short-lived TV series Paris, as reported by PEOPLE. They then appeared together in Othello in 1982 and got married the same year. As mentioned above, they welcomed their son into the world in 1982. Before marrying James, Cecilia was married to actor Bruce Weitz from 1971 to 1980.

Cecilia passed away in 2016 from ovarian cancer. Her family did not release an official statement, but asked for any donations in her honor to be made to the Actors Fund or the Hudson Valley Hospice. After her death, James received a Tony award for lifetime achievement in 2017 and thanked her for always believing in him. «I want to thank my wife Ceci for being such a wonderful companion in my life and my work. And for being a great co-producer of our son Flynn and for being so dazzling on the red carpet», - he said before the show
