James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, told the publication «Extra» at the premiere of the film «Clayface» in Los Angeles that this horror movie was not part of the original DC plans but turned out to be too good to ignore.
The film tells the story of Matt Hagen, a Hollywood star who is horribly disfigured and undergoes modern treatments to restore his appearance, but this leads to a loss of connection with reality and destructive behavior. Gunn noted that the story was so touching and unique that they decided to include it in the cinematic universe.
He also praised the lead actor Tom Rhys Harris, stating that many auditioned for the role, but he and Matt Reeves immediately fell in love with Tom for his acting talent and charisma.
Tom Rhys Harris shared in an interview with «Extra» that the script and story he received were very exciting, especially against the backdrop of the DC universe and Batman. He added that, despite the presence of effects with «gore and blood», - the film is essentially romantic, and he hopes that viewers will empathize with the characters.
The film «Clayface» will be released in theaters on October 23.
