Jim Curtis is now under the bright spotlight, as he is known as the new boyfriend of Jennifer Aniston. However, he is also a well-known name in the health and wellness field. As a hypnotherapist and coach, Jim has made it his mission to help others, inspired by his own illness. Jim’s personal health struggles, including living with a disability at one point, have made headlines, and fans of Jennifer are curious to learn more about him.
«After years of living with a chronic, misdiagnosed illness and emotional trauma, he found a way of healing that respected both the body and the soul», - — as stated on Jim’s website. «His work is rooted in this experience — and in the belief that no matter how stuck or broken you feel, transformation is always possible».
Hollywood Life breaks down everything we know about Jim’s illness and how he is feeling now.
As previously noted, Jim works as a hypnotherapist, coach, and author. He has published two books: Shift: Quantum Manifestation Guide and The Stimulati Experience: 9 Skills for Getting Past Pain, Setbacks, and Trauma to Ignite Health and Happiness.
«For over two decades, Jim has been a voice in the world of wellness — holding leadership positions at WebMD, Everyday Health, and the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN)», - — as stated in Jim’s biography on his website. «He has coached entrepreneurs, creatives, and public figures through deep inner work — blending neuroscience, subconscious reprogramming, and emotional healing».
Jim currently uses a cane for walking. When he was 22 years old, doctors discovered lesions on his spinal cord.
«My own illness and disability forced me to confront limited beliefs, disconnection, and trauma that made me sad, sick, and lonely», - — as stated on Jim’s website. «Through a multitude of powerful tools, including hypno-realization, I not only transformed my physical health, depression, and relationships, but also helped thousands of others break free to create an entirely new reality full of connection, community, and love».
During a 2018 interview with Fast Company, Jim opened up about his condition, which led to muscle spasms, disability, and even paralysis at one point.
«It's unclear how they started, but I got really sick really fast and soon had trouble walking», - — said Jim. «My illness was telling me something about the perception of who I was, [that for me] was this macho; I was an athlete, and I had a plan to work on Wall Street, so I did that».
Noting that his work on Wall Street «couldn't have been a worse choice», - Jim explained that it was «super high stress, which is inflammatory and destructive to a condition like mine. It exacerbated fatigue and pain symptoms, and led to new ones, like IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and other things I couldn’t control».
Jim worked in his job for two years before transitioning into the healthcare field.
It is unclear if Jim currently lives with a disability, but he recalled his disability during his interview with Fast Company in 2018.
«I often never brought it up because I walked with a limp, and I didn’t want to get into the 'why,'» — explained Jim. «So most of the time I lied. I made up a story because I lacked the vulnerability to tell that story. So I would say I got in an accident — often it was a motorcycle accident — because it fit, it was pretty cool, and it was tough enough».
Jim talked about other symptoms he lived with, including IBS, noting that he «hid [his] condition, and it was very hard for [him]».
«Ten years ago I had IBS, and accidents happened often», - — explained Jim. «As a road salesman a lot, I had to walk through major airports literally for miles; I didn’t want to wait for a wheelchair and stumble and fall and be so sweaty. I did it and didn’t talk about it»
