Jimmy Allen revealed that he had contemplated suicide when he was going through his sexual assault case in a new interview with Kathie Lee Gifford, published on his YouTube channel on Tuesday, April 23. During the conversation, the 38-year-old country singer addressed the sexual assault case involving his former manager, which was later dismissed.

Shortly after filing the lawsuit, the country singer released a statement denying the allegations, stating that the relationship was consensual. Jimmy claimed that he did not want a relationship with his former manager and regretted starting one, especially considering he was married to his then-wife at the time. «For a long time, I thought, 'As long as I’m providing for my wife and kids, I have the freedom to do whatever I want.' That’s the wrong thinking. I made a commitment. I should have either stuck to it or ended it», - he said in the interview, referencing Entertainment Tonight.

When the allegations came out, Jimmy said he worried about how they would affect his ability to provide for his family. «I sat there and literally felt like the whole world just crumbled. Because the first thing my brain thinks about is not my career, it’s 'How am I going to provide for my kids?'» he said. «It hit me. My life insurance covers suicide».

The singer of the song «Freedom Was a Highway» said that at his darkest moment, a friend reached out to him, and it completely changed his perspective. «My friend Chuck texted me… He said, 'Ending it is not the answer.' When I read those words… I just stopped», - he said. Jimmy explained that he reached out to a friend who came to his house and took his gun. He said that the support of his loved ones and a few other people in the industry helped him. «My mom flew in, and then I started getting calls from different artists, checking on me, saying they love me, they care, they know who I am. Then I started getting calls from people I didn’t even expect. Some of the biggest actors in Hollywood, who I’ve admired for years, who I’ve never met, somehow got my phone number and called me», - he said.

Although thoughts of suicide persisted for a while, Jimmy acknowledged that with the help of therapy and mental health treatment, he changed the situation, and said that the setback «saved my life» in the end. «I started looking at the situation differently. It went from 'God, why is this happening to me?' to 'God, what am I supposed to learn from this?'» he said. «I stopped hating her and started to feel a little sorry for her, trying to understand what was going on in her life that made her do this».
