Joe Manganiello talks about his battle with illness in memoirs
Joe Manganiello spoke about his struggle with an autoimmune disease in his new autobiography «Blood Ties». According to People, the actor began experiencing symptoms shortly after his wedding to Sofia Vergara in 2015.

Among the symptoms were severe abdominal pain, bleeding, significant weight loss, fever, rash, headaches, and fatigue. Manganiello noted, «I was getting sicker and sicker». In his book, he describes how his health deteriorated, and doctors could not understand what was happening to him. In 2016, he required emergency surgery to remove part of his intestine, after which he used a stoma.

In the book, he shares details about this surgery. «One day, about two weeks after being hospitalized, I realized that I probably wouldn’t make it to dawn», - he writes. Doctors could not determine the cause of his condition, and in a last-ditch effort, they decided to perform surgery, during which they discovered that his colon had turned to pus and was on the verge of rupturing. Manganiello noted that if it weren’t for the surgery, he would have died immediately from sepsis.

Sofia Vergara made the difficult but vital decision to remove his entire colon. The surgery lasted 10 hours, and afterward, the actor learned that it had saved his life but left him with a stoma indefinitely, possibly forever. He also mentioned that his search for answers took him beyond traditional medicine, and he believes that a shaman in Santa Monica helped him heal by working through his genetic trauma.

Manganiello is now healthy, and his digestive tract has been restored through surgery. He stated, «For seven years, I thought I would die the next week. The world has opened up for me again». The book «Blood Ties» will be released on October 13.
