Jon Bon Jovi sheds light on the situation with Richie Sambora more than 10 years after he left the band.

During a question and answer session for the viewing of the documentary series «Thank You, Goodnight: The Story of Bon Jovi», - 62-year-old Jon assured music fans that there are no hard feelings over Richie’s decision.

«There was never a fight», - he told the audience on April 10 through PEOPLE. «There was substance abuse, there was anxiety, there was single parenting, there were a lot of personal issues he was going through. But neither I, nor he, nor David [Bryan], nor Tico [Torres] ever fought».

Richie, 64, who had previously struggled with painkillers and alcohol, decided to leave the band in the middle of the 2013 Because We Can tour.

At that time, he expressed a desire to spend more time with his family. He shares his 26-year-old daughter Ava Sambora with his ex-wife Heather Locklear.

«I'm not an angel», - Richie told PEOPLE in December 2020. «But I realized that at that moment Ava needed me to be there. Family had to come first, and it did».

Jon agreed that Richie wanted to be home more than on the road. But at the same time, he acknowledged that there was an adjustment after losing his longtime musical partner.

«There's no animosity», - he said during the question and answer session. «An integral part of my story for three out of four chapters was my right-hand man, invited into my band, and I was lucky to meet him. But life went on».

The Grammy award winner still respects his former bandmate for prioritizing family — even if he misses the opportunity to rock and roll with his friend.

«I respect the idea that he wanted to stay home and raise his daughter», - he said. «It's unfortunate for us and for the world, but I’m not mad about it».

«Thank You, Goodnight: The Story of Bon Jovi» is a four-part documentary series that describes the past and uncertain future of one of the most recognizable bands in the world.

Cameras began filming in February 2022 and followed the band’s journey as they figured out what would come next. According to Hulu, the series «experiences triumphs and failures, the biggest hits, the biggest disappointments, and the most public moments of friction».
