John Goodman showcased a significant weight loss at the premiere of his new film «Diggers» in Los Angeles on Monday evening. The actor appeared in a black suit, striped tie, and white shirt.
In the film, where an unrecognizable Tom Cruise plays the lead role, Goodman portrays a fictional President of the United States. In an interview with «Extra», - John praised Tom for his dedication to the role, noting that he looked older and heavier in the guise of an oil magnate who needs to prevent a major disaster, possibly caused by himself. Goodman said, «He was Digger before we got there and after we left. The makeup was killing him; I don’t know if he developed an allergy to it or what, but it got worse over time. But he just lived in that character, and it was so real or natural that you just got used to it».
John knows what body transformation is about: he has been on a weight loss journey since 2007. The actor, who once weighed 400 pounds, reportedly lost 200 pounds over the years. In 2017, Goodman told ABC that he was used to losing weight and then gaining it back. He noted, «I used to take three months, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with six cans of beer or something like that and go back to my old habits… This time I wanted to do it slowly. Move, exercise. I’m at that age where I can’t afford to sit still».
In 2018, he also told AARP that he focused on portion control, adding, «I was just shoving everything in my mouth». The actor hired personal trainer Mackie Shilston to help him stay in shape. Shilston spoke with Us Weekly in 2015 after John lost his first 100 pounds, noting that Goodman’s decision to quit alcohol played a key role in his weight loss, along with following a «Mediterranean diet». The actor also trained six days a week.
