Jon Gosselin expressed pride in his son Collin following the release of his memoir. In a statement made on October 15, Jon noted that he is proud of Collin’s «tragic autobiography» and his desire to help other victims of abuse. In his book «In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving My Childhood Reality», - Collin claims he was abused by his mother, Kate Gosselin.
Jon also responded to allegations that Collin, who is 22 years old, has mental health issues. He emphasized that anyone who continues to label his son as «mentally ill» will be held accountable. According to Jon, Collin has been evaluated by several independent psychiatrists, and such claims are «categorically false». He added that repeating false statements about Collin’s mental health harms his reputation and future.
Jon’s representative, Adrian Schwartz, stated that Jon has remained on the sidelines to allow Collin to tell his story. He fully supports his son and believes that Collin deserves respect and the opportunity to be heard.
Although Jon did not specify to whom his words were directed, Kate had previously mentioned «mental illness» in a comment on TikTok. In response to a fan’s comment about her doing well, Kate wrote that «rational people» understand what is happening and that she has nothing to do with it.
Collin and Jon became known through the show «Jon & Kate Plus 8», - which aired from 2007 to 2009. After their divorce in 2009, their complicated custody battle attracted public attention. Ultimately, Collin and his sister Hannah chose to live with their father after a series of alleged traumatic events that Collin detailed in his book.
