John Mayer performed a rare solo concert in Connecticut
John Mayer held a rare solo show on October 9, giving fans a glimpse into his upcoming residency at Sphere in Las Vegas. The concert took place at the Mohegan Sun arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, and marked the beginning of a three-day celebration of the casino’s 30th anniversary.

Mayer, who is 48 years old, performed in front of 10,000 spectators, using only a microphone, guitar, and piano, without the accompaniment of a full band. Over the course of two hours, he played 20 songs, opening the concert with «Slow Dancing in a Burning Room» and continuing with hits from his nearly three-decade catalog, including «Your Body Is a Wonderland» and «Gravity». He concluded the evening with a cover of Tom Petty’s «Free Fallin'».

The 30th anniversary celebration of Mohegan Sun also includes performances by country star Lainey Wilson on October 10 and DJ Cassidy on October 11. Cassidy will perform with guests such as Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, Ja Rule, Jadakiss, and Nelly as part of his Pass the Mic Live! series.

John Mayer’s show took place less than two weeks after he announced an 18-night residency at Sphere, set for April, May, and June 2027. In a press release obtained by Us Weekly, it was stated that these performances will combine immersive sound, visual effects, and sensory feedback to make each show unique.

Mayer previously performed at Sphere with Dead & Company in 2024−2025 and mentioned that he has already spent «several months» preparing for his upcoming concerts. On his Instagram, he noted that the anticipation for the new show inspires him to delve deeper into its creation. He is currently working on his ninth studio album, which will be a follow-up to his 2021 release «Sob Rock».
