After three months, Jonathan Van Ness, who is non-binary and uses the pronouns he/they/she, spoke out about the accusations made against him, stating that «it really is not based in reality».
The 37-year-old hairstylist and star of «Queer Eye» shared on an episode of the Table Manners podcast that «his whole Queer Eye family found out about this article around December».
«Someone is going to write an expose about you that really isn’t based in reality, but can take a lot of things out of context to make you look bad», - he added. «So that could happen at any moment. Just so you know».
While awaiting the publication of the article, Van Ness revealed that he felt like he was «walking on eggshells» in the period between learning about the article and its publication in March. He even mentioned some issues with his business JVN Hair, his own hair care brand named after his initials, such as bankruptcy.
An anonymous source told Rolling Stone magazine: «They really focus on being warm, loving, and caring towards other people», - but allegedly, what you saw on screen did not match some «disrespectful» behavior experienced by crew members.
Regardless of how Jonathan felt after this, he acknowledged that the article made him reflect and look inward: «While I do believe that this article was mostly false and written with bad intentions», - he began, «in my career, there have certainly been moments when I was tense. Or when I could have been busy with work and said, 'No, I can’t talk about this right now.' I know there were moments when I could have been better»
