George Clooney has just revolutionized modern theater. The actor made Broadway history by presenting his debut on stage, «Good Night, and Good Luck», - live on television, and theater fans who couldn’t attend the Winter Garden theater were thrilled. Although hit productions, such as «Hamilton», - have been released on streaming platforms, no live Broadway play has ever been shown on TV.

«I can’t tell you how exciting it is to do something that has never been done before», - George previously stated in a statement quoted by CNN. «CNN is the perfect place to bring this story of courage to a much larger audience than we could hope for. Live broadcast. No safety net. Get ready, everyone».

CNN Chairman and CEO Mark Thompson described the play as «not only a celebration of the golden age of television journalism, [but] also about the importance of a free press and the need for strong news organizations to report the facts fairly. This is something we still deeply value».

Find out more about George’s Broadway play below.

The only time you could watch «Good Night, and Good Luck» live on TV was on June 7, 2025, on CNN. The theatrical performance ends on June 8.

While George plays journalist Edward R. Murrow, the rest of the main cast of «Good Night, and Good Luck» includes Mac Brandt as Colonel Anderson, Will Dagger as Don Hewitt, Christopher Denham as John Aaron, Glenn Fleshler as Fred Friendly, Ilana Glazer as Shirley Wershba, Clark Gregg as Don Hollenbeck, and Paul Gross as William S. Paley.

Edward was a well-known CBS journalist, widely recognized as one of the greatest. He gained acclaim for his radio broadcasts during World War II, and later for his investigations into Senator Joseph McCarthy, which inspired the 2005 film «Good Night, and Good Luck».

When recounting World War II, Edward would end his broadcasts by saying, «Good night, and good luck».

Although you won’t be able to see another television event of a Broadway play, fans can still watch the 2005 film «Good Night, and Good Luck», - directed by George. The film is currently available for rent for $ 3.99 on YouTube, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime Video
