Former Congressman George Santos urged voters to be «more selective» ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. In an interview with Us, he stated, «We need to be more careful about who we send to office», - adding that many candidates are better suited for reality TV than for Washington.
Santos was expelled from Congress on December 1, 2023, after a report from the House Ethics Committee revealed abuses involving his campaign funds. He was later sentenced to 87 months in prison for providing false information about his past and committing several crimes, including fraud and identity theft. In October 2025, President Donald Trump commuted his sentence.
After serving about three months of his seven-year sentence, he joined the fifth season of the FOX reality show «Stars on Mars». In the interview, he also shared that he believes some politicians, like Marjorie Taylor Greene, could perform better on reality television.
Santos noted that the positive response from viewers to his participation in the show was unexpected and «very humbling». He expressed gratitude to the audience for their support and the opportunity to present himself outside of the news headlines. Santos also mentioned that his involvement in the show helped him regain some of his reputation. The fifth season of «Stars on Mars» airs Thursdays at 9 PM Eastern Time.
